As a child, Nick was obsessed with woodwork. Always tinkering away, using different materials to build fun things. A combination he used a lot was combining light and dark woods together.

It’s only natural that as you progress as a maker you continually want to try new ideas and possibly even let go of old ones.

Nick hadn’t used the light and dark wood combination for many years in fear that it was more of a beginners technique rather than a professional’s technique.

This Walnut and Blackened Brass Hall Table is a collaboration with Kirsten from NG.Feathers Atelier

Another use of carefully considered grain flow as shown in the Walnut Console. This Walnut and Blackened Brass Hall Table is made entirely from three walnut boards. Carefully cut to ensure the grain carries perfectly from top to bottom.

Each corner is a mitre joint giving the look of extra thick material, but in reality, the walnut used to create this piece is only 20mm thick.

A common theme throughout Nick’s work is grain flow. To carry the natural wood grain across the piece, not allowing a door, drawer or lid to stop the continuous growth of the grain, which is shown throughout this Walnut Record Cabinet. From the front doors to the large record cabinet lid, the timber grain truly steals the show in this piece.…

Black Oak Record Cabinet

A bold statement

Designed to serve a primary function, which is a place to play music, this Black Oak Record Cabinet houses a record player under the oak tambour door, and allows plenty of room for equipment such as the amp to hide behind the elegant brass grille doors which are bordered in thin black oak in order to not detract from the woven brass pattern.

The centre cabinet doors open without obstruction due to the push to open sliding bi-fold door, allowing full access to a large collection of records.…
